Overview
Abigail McCallum (b. 1990) lives and works in Los Angeles and maintains a studio in San Francisco. She is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on oil painting. McCallum combines improvisational abstract methods and traditional oil painting techniques to merge abstraction with the dimension of realism. Her work is inevitably intertwined with movement and musicality from her background in classical ballet. The paint is layered continuously over time as ideas are built up and deconstructed with wood cutting tools, putty knives, and sandpaper. The final image is formed from improvisations, botanical forms, and everyday moments. She is exploring the interplay of beauty, drama, and mystery. McCallum holds a degree in Art from Gonzaga University. Her work has been featured at the Jundt Art Museum and Chase Gallery in Spokane, Hang Art in San Francisco, and CONTEXT Art Miami.
